  • Day 2 – We arrive in pretty Gosau and stay for six nights. B,D
  • Day 3 – Salzkammergut Lakes (included). See the crystal-clear Lake Mondsee and the church from the wedding scene in 'The Sound of Music'. We continue to the lakeside St. Gilgen, which boasts one of the most attractive town squares in the country. B,D
  • Day 4 – Chiemsee (optional). Known as 'the Bavarian Sea', Chiemsee is the region's largest lake. We take a boat from the first-class spa resort of Prien and head to Herrenchiemsee (Men's Island) to visit the royal castle of King Ludwig II. Built in 1873 and modelled after the Palace of Versailles, the 98 metre 'hall of mirrors' is its most famous room. Our visit also includes the royal bed chamber, a room which was never slept in! B,D
  • Day 5 – Bad Ischl and Hallstatt (optional, included on Silver Service). Today, our full-day excursion visits Bad Ischl, Obertraun and Hallstatt, some of the world's most beautiful lakeside villages. Bring plenty of film for this one - wandering around the narrow streets of these charming hamlets will inspire plenty of photo opportunities. B,D
  • Day 6 – Salzburg (optional). Our superb excursion to the 'Sound of Music City' offers lovely squares and medieval lanes, Gothic churches and quaint cafés. We can visit the fascinating museum of Mozart's birthplace, where he lived and composed much of his early work. For an amazing view of the city and surrounding area, we recommend taking the funicular up to Hohensalzburg castle. A sightseeing tour (optional) is also available. B,D
  • Day 7 – Berchtesgaden and the Eagle's Nest (optional). On the picturesque German alpine high road, Berchtesgaden is surrounded by mountains, including the 8900 foot Watzmann! The town centre boasts decorated façades, churches and a Royal Palace - a former summer residence of the Bavarian kings. Later in the afternoon, we visit the Eagle's Nest, dramatically perched on a mountain top, the famed location of Hitler's alpine hideaway. We begin with a scenic drive up Obersalzberg mountain, from where we catch a local post bus for a breathtaking journey along the Kehlstein high road. We then ascend by a luxurious elevator to the Eagle's Nest summit, from which we can see Berchtesgaden and the Salzach Valley - don't forget your camera! B,D
