9-Day Break
- Day 1 – We travel to Belgium for an overnight stay.
- Day 2 – We arrive at our Saalbach hotel for a six-night stay. B,D
- Day 3 – Zell am See and Lake Cruise (included).
Zell am See, regarded as one of Austria's most beautiful places, mixes lofty peaks and stunning alpine scenery. Take a cruise on the serene waters of Lake Zell to experience the tranquil setting, then enjoy time to wander around the town. We recommend a cable car ride (optional) up Schmittenhöhe mountain, or relax at a local café with strudel and coffee. B,D
- Day 4 – Kitzbühel and the Gisela Train (optional). We board the 'Gisela' train at Zell am See for a nostalgic ride through the hills to Kitzbühel. It was here that the ceremonial opening of the first continuous European railway connection from Paris to Istanbul happened in 1875. The centrepiece of the original train is the Royal Imperial Mail Carriage of 1910. The middle section was made into a saloon car, hosting an original mail box with a special stamp, a buffet and a bar. B,D
- Day 5 – Berchtesgaden and the Eagle's Nest (optional). On the picturesque German alpine high road, Berchtesgaden is surrounded by mountains, including the 8900 foot Watzmann! The town centre boasts decorated façades, churches and a Royal Palace - a former summer residence of the Bavarian kings. Later in the afternoon, we visit the Eagle's Nest, dramatically perched on a mountain top, the famed location of Hitler's alpine hideaway. We begin with a scenic drive up Obersalzberg mountain, from where we catch a local post bus for a breathtaking journey along the Kehlstein high road. We then ascend by a luxurious elevator to the Eagle's Nest summit, from where we can see Berchtesgaden and the Salzach Valley - don't forget your camera! B,D
- Day 6 – Grossglockner Glacier (included). Travelling along the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, we ascend Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner (Big Bell). The impressive icy world can be captured from the Franz-Josefs-Heights viewing platform, before we continue to the charming mountaineers' village of Heiligenblut, to shop or simply relax. B,D
- Day 7 – Krimml Waterfall and the Ziller Valley (optional, included on Silver Service). At 380 metres, these cascades are Europe's longest free fall of water!
Our fabulous tour offers the chance to discover the delights of Krimml waterfall. We also drive over the majestic Gerlos Pass to the Mayrhofen ski resort and charming Rattenberg. B,D
- Day 8 – During our journey home, we spend a night
in Belgium. B
- Day 9 – Journey to Calais then return home. B
