Experience Europe’s most beautiful gardens in full bloom this spring with the Dutch Towns and the Spring Gardens of Keukenhof Cruise 2017 from The River Cruise Line. Our cruise starts in Arnhem, a city steeped in history, before setting sail for picturesque IJsselmeer, with its quaint harbours and fishing ports. Before the sights and sounds of Amsterdam, we stop for an included excursion to the world’s largest flower garden, Keukenhof, where we’ll see the world’s largest flower garden in full springtime bloom. 7 Day Itinerary

Day 1: UK – Arnhem

We travel to Arnhem and board our ship for a relaxing evening.

Day 2: Arnhem – Zutphen

The city of Arnhem is a moving place to visit, having been the scene of one of the boldest operations of World War Two. Explore at leisure or join our optional excursion with a visit to the historic cellars under the streets, a trip up Arnhem’s tallest building and apple pie with tea or coffee in the Dudok Café. In the afternoon we have another optional excursion visiting a vineyard in the wine village of Groesbeek where we enjoy a tour and tasting.

Day 3: Zutphen – Kampen – Lemmer

Our next port of call is Kampen on the edge of the IJsselmeer. From here we offer an optional excursion to visit Het Loo Palace, whilst our ship cruises up the eastern shoreline to the traditional fishing port of Lemmer.

Day 4: Lemmer – Franeker – Harlingen

Casting off in the early morning, we cruise to the historic town of Franeker. From here you can join our optional coach excursion which takes us across the IJsselmeer causeway to reach the harbour town of Medemblik, where we have included entry to the award-winning Bakery Museum. We rejoin our ship in Franeker and sail to Harlingen for a relaxing evening in this old Friesian seaport.

Day 5: Harlingen – Enkhuizen – Hoorn

The picturesque former seaport of Enkhuizen, is our destination today. Whilst berthed here for the afternoon you can explore the town and its famous marina or you can join our optional excursion to the Zuiderzee Museum. We cast off in the early evening and cruise to the lively little port of Hoorn.

Day 6: Hoorn – Volendam – Keukenhof Gardens – Amsterdam

We continue our route down the IJsselmeer to the quaint former fishing port of Volendam. Here you can join our included excursion to the magnificent Keukenhof Gardens. We rejoin our ship in Amsterdam where you can take an optional cruise along Amsterdam’s canal system whilst enjoying cheese and wine.

Day 7: Amsterdam – UK

This morning we bid farewell to our Captain and crew and disembark for the return journey to the UK.
