13 Day Itinerary

Day -1

Regional departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to Portsmouth for the overnight 24 hour crossing to Santander. Accommodation is in two-berth, inside cabins with en suite facilities. Enjoy the facilities on board.

On coach holidays of 7 days’ duration or more and Single Traveller coach holidays, you don’t even have to think about getting to your local joining point.

If you live within 20 miles of one of our free joining point, we’ll pick you up from your home and take you to meet your feeder coach, then return you back home at the end of your holiday. On European coach holidays of 7 days' or more, the cost of this is just £30 per booking each way (Up to 4 people per booking). For Single Traveller holidays, it’s free of charge.

If you live a little further afield, you can also take advantage of this convenient option for an additional charge

Day - 2

Evening arrival in Santander, then onwards to our overnight hotel in northern Spain.

Day - 3 - Zamora

En route to Salamanca for a two-night stay, we visit the fortified town of Zamora, which featured prominently in the legend of El Cid. The town boasts many beautifully preserved Romanesque churches and a stunning Byzantine cathedral.

Day - 4 - Salamanca

Spend the day exploring the beautiful city of Salamanca, with its splendid Roman, Arabic and Christian architectural treasures. Wander the elegant arcades of the Plaza Mayor and see Puente Romano.

Day - 5 - Avila

We head to Madrid, via a tour of Castile, with a stop made in the medieval walled town of Avila, a World Heritage Site, with a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, and Renaissance churches and palaces. We continue to Madrid where we stay for four nights.

Day - 6 - Madrid

The capital of Spain, Madrid is a truly cosmopolitan city, with a wealth of cultural attractions. The splendid Plaza Mayor provides the perfect starting point to explore Old Madrid, lined with beautifully muralled buildings. See the huge Palacio Real (Royal Palace), a landmark of the city, explore the Paseo del Prado of Bourbon Madrid and enjoy a stroll around the magnificent Retiro Park. Our optional sightseeing tour will show you the best of the city.

Day - 7 - Toledo

Free day in Madrid or join our optional excursion to Toledo, often regarded as the Spanish city with the greatest wealth of monuments and known as the ‘city of the three cultures’, because Christians, Arabs and Jews lived there for centuries. Behind its walls, Toledo preserves its artistic and cultural legacy in the form of churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques and synagogues.

Day - 8 - Segovia

Join our included excursion to Segovia spectacularly situated on a high rocky spur. Its old quarter and Roman aqueduct, are World Heritage Sites. In addition numerous Romanesque churches, the cathedral and fortress create a magnificent city that presides over this part of Castile.

Day - 9 - Burgos

We head north to Burgos, situated on the Pilgrim’s Road. The cathedral and old quarter are masterpieces of Spanish Gothic architecture. We continue into France to the Biarritz area for two nights.

Day - 10 - San Sebastián

Enjoy our included excursion into Basque Spain, visiting the stunning city of San Sebastián set on a sweeping, shellshaped bay with its charming, old quarter and Belle Epoque style. The local tapas bars are a true delight.

Day - 11

We head through France to the pretty resort of La Rochelle for one night.

Day - 12 - La Rochelle

Morning in La Rochelle, with its picturesque harbour and pretty arcaded streets with half-timbered houses. Early afternoon, we head to the Paris area and our overnight hotel.

Day - 13

Return home.

Accommodation

You will stay in 3-star and 4-star hotels throughout your time in Spain. Your overnight stays in France will be in city-style hotels. On the overnight ferry sailing, accommodation will be in two-berth en suite inside cabins.
